What Happens When You Persevere and Stand the Test?

What Happens When You Persevere and Stand the Test?

Trials can really test us. Yet, at the same time, they also refine us.

FAITH. CULTURE. STORYTELLING.

In my own life, most of the growth and development I’ve experienced has been in the valleys, not so much in the “mountain” seasons.

When we struggle, we tend to learn.

This is a message we see in James 1:12 (NIV), when he writes:

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

The key, of course, is persevering and standing the test. Whether it’s struggles with our faith or some other circumstance, placing our trust in God to guide us through is paramount.

When we face trials, it might not be fair, and it might not even make sense, but we can always draw from God’s well of goodness to find discernment and strength.

Verses 13-14 (NIV) also give some other food for thought, particularly when it comes to sin and temptation.

“When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me,’” verse 13 reads, with 14-15 continuing: “For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

So, here are a few exit questions for today: are you persevering well? If not, ask God for strength to deal with whatever trials you’re now facing.

And, as for sin and evil, what areas do you need help? Pray for wisdom, discernment, and strength to carry through in a God-honoring way.
